Food for thought‘[...] do not think that good design can make a poor product good, whether the product be a machine, a building, a promotional brochure or a business man. But [...] good design can materially help make a good product reach its full potential. In short, [...] good design is good business.’

Pascal Blanchet – masterful illustrations

April 17, 2008, 1:53 PM

Mr. Pascal Blanchet‘s illustrations left me speechless. Rarely have I seen such beautiful colours and expressive hand-made typography (at many times interacting with the illustration). Reminding of Chuck Jones and Les Goldman’s animations or american modernism, Pascal Blanchet’s style manages to seem perfect for book covers, record covers, advertising, social posters or even product packaging.

Beautiful illustrations by Kristiana Parn. Acrylic on wood mostly. Check her other works too.

I love how this last one has a Van Gogh feel to it, from both his Potato Eaters and Room at Arles.

Beautiful illustrations by Carson Ellis. Sometimes reminds me of Gaugain and Le Douanier (check her website, her blog and a tv interview).

Tadahiro Uesugi's light

March 2, 2008, 9:19 PM

Shin hanga meets french style in Tadahiro Uesugi‘s beautiful illustrations. I love the way his light shines in a mediterranean kind of way, feeling like a stroll on a warm sunny sunday afternoon (reminds me of Kosuke Ikeda a bit). Either way, they’ve got charm. Tons of it.

After a few searches, I also found a flickr set with Tadahiro‘s work. I forgot how I’ve found him in the first place (I think it was through this Amazon recommandation), but here’s a Drawn! article about him.

To ski or not to ski

February 25, 2008, 2:31 AM

These are so beautiful that I’d almost keep them only on my wall as paintings. Might sound like some Star Wars robot name, but 4FRNT have some killer skis, wonderfuly illustrated by Abe Kislevitz (check his site for awesome details and other models). I’d sure love to have a pair or two :)

These are the MSP, 2008 edition:

The true face of the universal man

This is the fearsome truth of what we are evolving into. Period. But whatta hell, at least we’ve got beer. Cheers! :))
